Understanding Color II – Further Exploration of Color Relationships

You know the color wheel and understand the basic color relationships of Analogous, Compliments, and Near Compliments, but there is so much more! In this 4 hour class we will use watercolors to explore how Hue, Value, Saturation, and Contrasts can affect the appearance of a color and develop a deeper understanding of how colors work together.

Students will paint a set of reference worksheets and will be given some design sheets to continue learning at home.

Students will learn:
1 – Review: Value, Intensity & Saturation
and Basic Color Relationships (Analogous, Complimentary, Near Compliments)
2 – Contrasts with Neutrals
3 – Simultaneous Contrast
4 – Contrast of Saturation

Understanding Color – Introduction to the Core Color Concepts
Have you ever been frustrated when choosing colors for an art project, sewing project, painting or even deciding what to wear? Does it seem that sometimes you get it and other times you don’t? Learning basic color theory will give you the tools, knowledge and understanding to make those choices a whole lot easier and more fun. In this 4 hour class we will use watercolors to explore basic color relationships and the 3 core components of color: Hue, Value, and Saturation. Students will paint a set of reference worksheets and will be given some design sheets to continue learning at home.

Color Theory Class – 4 hours
1 – Basic color terminology, and the color wheel
2 – Monochromatic color schemes
3 – Continuing with Value, Intensity & Saturation
4 – Color Relationships – Analogous, Complimentary, Near Compliments

Students will paint a set of reference worksheets and will be given some design sheets to continue learning at home.
